A Mandala Story

A Mandala Story

The history of mandalas is ancient and has its roots in India and the Hindu practices found there. The typical purpose of and intention of any mandala is to encourage introspection and self-awareness for the artist and/or the viewer of the specific piece of work. Specifically, they help create an awareness of where one is in the world and centering ourselves in where we are. The specific meanings and purposes of each mandala are centered in the intention either of the artist while creating the piece or in the viewing of the individual who is seeing the piece. Each unique mandala is meant to have meaning for the individual looking at it in the space and time that they are given to see it. Sitting and meditating while visually exploring mandalas is a fascinating practice and each time I think I have seen everything that a mandala can show me a new image or impression comes to light.
